TYPES OF IMMUNITY
There are 2 types of immune defence systems that we possess, and these are known as:
| NON-SPECIFIC (or INNATE) immunity | |
| SPECIFIC (or ACQUIRED) immunity |
Non-Specific Immunity
To put it very simply, non-specific immunity is an immune system that is all-embracing and wide-ranging.
The troops of the non-specific immunity, often bear the brunt of the first full-frontal attacks from the enemy.
Specific Immunity
It is specific immunity that gives us immunity to (as the name suggests) specific pathogenic micro-organisms.
It consists of lymphocytes and can deal almost on a one-to-one basis with invading micro-organisms.
This allows for a much more concentrated attack on these pathogenic micro-organisms that have broken through our initial defences.
