CONCLUSION

Now we have come to the end of a rather long ramble along the highways and byways of our immune system - our defence against infectious micro-organisms.

Having to discuss individual sections may have made it seem rather disjointed at a first glance, but the important point to remember is that none of these individual parts of our immune system can really work effectively without the co-operation and the contributions of the others.

Our immune army is an 'equal opportunities' army, in so far as each branch co-operates with each other in order to give us maximum protection - just as the army, navy, and air force will co-operate to defend a country that is under attack.

In the same way, the different arms of our immune system combine to defeat our enemies.

Certainly, with the thousands of enemies beating at our castle walls continuously, we need to have a strong co-operative system of defence.

Rightly has our body been likened to a battleground - long may we all continue to be victorious!

AND FINALLY.....

As more and more research is carried out, so will we come to understand much more about the intricate system of sales, chemicals, enzymes, and mechanisms which we call the IMMUNE SYSTEM.
