INGID Newsletter August 2006
This short INGID Newsletter is to tell
you about new developments to
the website.
First of all, we apologise for the fact
that the INGID forums have not
been working lately. Unfortunately
people who are not members of
INGID were able to hack into the site
and some of them were advertising
very offensive material. Consequently
the decision was made to close down
the site until we could remove
these people from the site and find
what we hope would be a more
secure way of running these forums.
I am now happy to say that we have
been able to do that. First of all we
have removed all the spammers and
other intruders from the site.
Secondly, when you register for
the forums, you will need to use a
password unique to INGID as well
as registering your own personal
password. you will need to type in this
INGID password when you
are asked for a VIP password.
However, the security of this site
depend upon you, the members,
not letting anyone else know what
this password is, therefore we would
ask you to be very careful with it. To
keep the password private, we will not
be including it in this Newsletter, but will include it in the email accompanying this INGID Newsletter.
The second development you will notice with regards to the web site is that there is a new area called Learning Webs.
These are available for you, the members, to access. They are part of the INGID desire to improve the knowledge of all nurses who are involved in the care of patients with primary immunodeficiencies. They are very simple to use, and the first very basic teaching unit on the simple anatomy and physiology of the immune system is accessible to everyone. However, the other 2 units are only able to be used by members of INGID because you will require a password to access them. This is because, as a Board, we feel that you deserve something special for paying your INGID fees and so being members of INGID. Again, we would ask that you do not let anyone else know what the password is that is necessary for anyone to be able to look at these 2 teaching units. When you do access them, you will see that one of them is a more advanced look at the immune system (although not too difficult), and the second one is an introduction to primary immunodeficiencies.
You do not have to have any knowledge of computers to work through these programmes, all you need is a computer mouse, and an interest to
learn more about your specialty. Ideally, these programmes would be in languages other than English to make
them more available for many more
nurses who look after patients with
primary immunodeficiencies, but until we
can get funding for this purpose, we will
have to leave them in English.
We hope that you will find these learning
and teaching web sites useful, and we
would welcome any comments that you
have about them. A lot of work has gone
into preparing and writing these learning
web sites (as well as the INGID forums)
and so we hope that you will use them
and find them useful. Again, the password
for these will be given to you in the accompanying email.
Finally, you will notice on the list of Board Members of INGID that there is a new
name. The Board have co-opted Jolanda
van Esch from the Netherlands to help us
to prepare for the 2008 INGID Conference. Jolanda works with Esther de Vries who is organising the conference for ESID, and so Jolanda will be able to act as our representative locally, as well as helping us to organise the INGID conference so that it turns out to be the best one yet. The Board have already welcomed Jolanda as a new Board Member, and we hope that you will also do so.
As work progresses on preparing for the 2008 conference in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, we will keep you all fully up to date on what is happening.
